Groups at UUCHCare -
This Committee reaches out to people who are sick, in need, or otherwise not having one of their better days.
Choir & Music -
We like to sing! We practice every Wednesday night from 7:15pm to 9pm. We are always looking for more voices. You don't have to read music,
just be open to some gentle guidance. Once a year we do a Musicale. Musicales have included country music, soul music,
and broadway show tunes.
Finance Committee -
This committee cares for the financial health of our congregation. We plan fundraisers, the pledge canvass and yearly budgets.
Pledge Canvass Committee -
This committee organizes the yearly pledge canvass. It meets year round to allow new members to be pledged as the newest part of our chruch, and to do proper planning.
Hospitality - The Hospitality committee plans and coordinates social and fundraising events such as our annual service auction, the Halloween party, and the musicale. First Sunday potlucks and circle suppers are examples of traditional events we arrange. We often work with other committees in developing unique activities as evidence by our joint sponsorship with the social action committee of a Karaoke and Care party in preparing packets for the homeless. Small group activities such as the yoga group are established to promote friendships among congregants and provide an opportunity for new members and visitors to participate in UUCH activities.
Membership - This committee welcomes and introduces visitors, new members and friends. They plan events to help these folks become connected with our church community. They also plan new member ceremonies, conduct New UU Classes for prospective members, and publish the church directory.
Nominating - This committee matches up people and tasks that need to be done. They recommend candidates for board and committee chairs, as well as committee members.
Property - This committee handles needs that arise in our facility. Their popular property work days include all types of jobs from making simple repairs, to remodeling a restroom for handicap accessibility, to major jobs such as replacing the roof. Check the church calendar for the next Property Work Day.
Publicity - This committee coordinates publicity for the church, as well as working with other committees on events for their publicity needs. This committee updates the web page.
Religious Education (RE) - This committee coordinates life-span learning at UUCH. Children's RE meets on Sunday morning during the service. Adult RE usually meets on Sunday evenings. Both focus on UUA curriculum materials that teach about and emanate from Unitarian Universalist principles.
Social Justice - This committee organizes the congregation for social justice causes. Recent projects have included helping establish and remodel health clinics at two local schools; working with the North Alabama Coalition for the Homeless to visit the homeless delivering blankets, food and toiletries, checking medical needs, and reporting other needs; eyeglass recycling; and delivering reading materials for a local prison.
Worship - This committee plans Sunday services. For each service, they coordinate with several people, including the minister or speaker, lay leaders, music chair, choir leader, story for sharing reader and the administrative assistant for the bulletin.
