| Sunday Services
Worship services are conducted each Sunday morning beginning at 10:45 am. These services are to celebrate life and to address personal, social and spiritual issues that are important to our congregation. Our services usually have a consistent format, but their subjects and tone may be quite varied. About once a month, our minister the Rev. Alice Syltie has a weekend off, and our service is led by the Worship Committee.
Our services typically share features that are common in many Unitarian Universalist and other services, such as a chalice lighting, hymn singing, choir performance, readings, prayers or meditations, and a sermon. We also frequently have a time for sharing major joys, concerns, and milestones. Music is important to us, as we have excellent pianists and other special musicians, and our congregation sings very well.
Children generally attend the opening portion of each service, which includes Words of Welcome, the Lighting of the Chalice, hymns and affirmations. Following A Story for Sharing, the children participate in Church School in the Religious Education facilities, located downstairs. Some services are "all-church" events, meaning that children remain upstairs for the entire service.
We almost always end our services in a very special way in which we all hold hands, our minister or lay worship leader gives us a final inspirational word or two, and we sing "Go Now In Peace." Afterwards, we meet informally for coffee and fellowship and try to get to know one another better.
We conduct a number of special services throughout the year including Flower Communion during April or May, Blending of the Waters to begin the new church year in August or September, as well as special services for Thanksgiving and the December holiday season.
