Winter Quarter
Invitations

from your
Adult Religious Education Committee

Dear Members & Friends,

Our ARE line-up for Winter 2004 offers programs designed to enhance our sense of community and to enrich our spiritual and intellectual lives. Whether you are new to our community, or a long-time member of UUCH, you are invited to consider these opportunities to become more deeply involved in our church.

Please use the pre-registration form in this newsletter to sign up for all programs that interest you. Complete your registration by returning it to the church office by the registration deadline. Course offerings with low enrollments may be cancelled, so be sure you register for what you like! In the event that a course is cancelled, you will be notified prior to the first class.

Course Descriptions

I. Evensong

This class is designed to help members of our congregation grow closer through personal sharing and deep listening in small groups. Course participants will embark on a journey of discovery and growth by sharing their own life journeys, thoughts, experiences, doubts, and beliefs, while giving their undivided attention to each individual as they share. This is a vespers-style class that is richly woven with the wisdom of many philosophies. It offers themes that allow for inspiration and renewal on a weekly basis. Last quarter’s participants loved this class so much they elected to continue meeting as a closed, covenanted group!

When: 6:30-8:30 p.m. on eight Mondays, beginning Feb. 16th

Where: UUCH

Registration Deadline: Feb. 8th

Facilitators: Rev. Alice Syltie & Kay Colgan

II. Traditions in Unitarian Universalist Theology

What do Unitarian Universalists believe about God and Jesus? Or life after death, and the Bible? Since we are a diverse and non-creedal religion, we don’t embrace absolute answers to these questions. However, we can explore the responses of well-known Unitarian Universalists to these and other questions, as well as our own responses to them. Learn how to explain Unitarian Universalism to your children, your friends, and yourself in this six-week series of interactive activities and small group discussions.

When: 7:00-8:30 on six Thursday evenings, beginning Feb. 19th

Where: UUCH

Registration Deadline: Feb. 8th

Facilitators: Jan Hosey & Bryan Walls
